The course aims to provide learners with a basic understanding of Geographical Information System (GIS) concepts to enable learners apply the knowledge and skills to their work which involved viewing, analyzing and displaying geospatial data for problem solving and decision making.

Course Objective

By the end of the course, learners will be able to :

  1. Acquire basic understanding of Geographical Information System (GIS) concepts.
  2. View, analyse and display geospatial data for problem solving and decision making.
  3. Apply the knowledge and skills learned at their workplace

Course Outline

Basic Geographical Information System (GIS) concepts

1. Introduction to GIS
2. Data types
3. Map design
4. Query data
5. Coordinate systems (WGS84, SVY21)
6. Spatial Analysis

Minimum Requirements

Basic IT skills.

Certification / Accreditation

  • Certificate of Attendance (electronic Certificate will be issued)
    A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who meet at least 75% attendance rate
  • Certificate of Completion (electronic Certificate will be issued)
    A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who pass the assessment and meet at least 75% attendance rate

Data analysts, technical specialists/supervisors/officers who use maps/geospatial data to study patterns/trends and plan operations, facilities, traffic and navigation.

As per SSG’s policy, the GST payable for all funding-eligible applicants is calculated based on prevailing GST rate after baseline funding subsidy of 70%
