This course is specially designed to train new entry opticians in the technical skills & professional knowledge required in the field of opticianry.
This course is designed to train new opticians in the technical skills & professional knowledge required in the field of opticianry.
The course duration is 1 year, delivered part-time with On-the-Job training.
The course will include modules such as physiological optics, ocular anatomy and ocular physiology, geometrical and physical optics, business principles for opticianry practice, optics & the eye, ophthalmic optics, legislation and ethics and ophthalmic
Successful completion of this course will enable the applicant to register as an optician (provisional license in Dispensing) with the Optometrists and Opticians Board.
Minimum Entry Requirements / Assumed Skills and Knowledge
- Possess ES Workplace Literacy (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking) Level 6 or GCE 'O' Level English grade C6 or GCE ‘N’ level passes in English Language grade D5; AND
- Possess ES Workplace Numeracy Level 6 or GCE'O' Level Mathematics grade C6, or GCE ‘N’ level passes in Mathematics grade D5; AND
- At least 1 year relevant working experience and must be existing employees within the optical trade in Singapore currently
** Applicants who do not meet the entry requirement will not be accepted into the course. PACE reserves the right to withdraw or reject applicant for any false declaration submitted.
Applicants with severe vision impairment may encounter difficulties meeting the course requirements and expectations. Please refer to the Optometrist & Opticians Board (OOB) website on “Fitness to Practice” for registered Opticians.
Mode of Assessment
Participants are required to pass assigned practical tests, written tests and fulfilled required assignments.
Award / Certification / Accreditation
• Certificate of Performance (electronic Certificate will be issued)
A Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who pass the examination and meet at least 75% attendance rate

Documents Required for Registration
a) A clear copy (back and front) of NRIC for Singaporeans and PRs, or 'Employment'/ 'S' Pass for foreign applicants
b) A clear copy of your academic certificate/result slip/ transcript (eg: GCE 'N'/ 'O' Certificate)
c) A copy of Letter of Employment by an optical outlet in Singapore
d) A copy of completed Declaration Form
IMPORTANT: Applications without ALL of the above required supporting documents will be considered incomplete and rejected. Singapore Polytechnic regrets that we will not be able to inform individual applicants of the incomplete documentation
nor disclose the reasons for selection/non-selection of applicants.
2. Foreign certificates submitted, should be translated to English.
