Next generation sequencing (NGS) is being transformative for the practice of clinical biology, and the high efficiency in sequencing mean that this will become a viable technology in diagnostic and research laboratories in the near future. The technology offers the advantage of higher sensitivity and the potential to detect the microbial gene and genomes, including unknown and unexpected strains.
In view of the robust advantages of NGS, we aim to introduce the technology to potential or current NGS users.
This module aims to introduce the latest technologies in clinical diagnostics. Emphasis will be on understanding the methodologies and hands-on experience on the use of uprising diagnostics techniques to diagnose or monitor cancer and/or infectious diseases.
- Understand and describe the methodology and applications of NGS in oncology, infectious diseases and genetic disorders.
- Perform, analyse and interpret DNA sequences for prognostics and diagnostics of diseases.
Life Science Researchers who embark on NGS research, Lab Technologists/Officers in Hospitals who wish to understand the next diagnostics trend.
