Course Outline

• This programme

- Equips participants with the analytical, preparative and interpretative skills that are critical to those working in a laboratory.
- Is mapped to laboratory technician job roles.
- Is designed with reference to the Energy & Chemicals Skills framework.

• Each module can be taken independently and is stackable.
• Participants can complete these modules at their comfortable learning pace, where there is an option for them to go through the Assessment Only Pathway (AOP) or the Full Training.
• Full training includes 3 hours of training & 4 hours of assessment.

A Certificate in Analytical Instrumentation (Spectroscopy) will be awarded upon successful completion of Modules 1 to 7, in either AOP or Full Training:

If you complete all 10 Modules, you will receive an additional Certificate in Analytical Instrumentation & Laboratory Techniques, endorsed by Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC, under the Science Council, the UK).


Suitable for

• Personnel and professionals who would like to do a refresher in this skill set as well as getting professional recognition of their skills in the form of formal certification.
• Those who are considering a career switch as a laboratory worker in chemical industries such as environment, oil & gas, personal/ home care and pharmaceutical. 


Minimum Entry Requirement / Assumed Skills and Knowledge

GCE ‘N’/'O' Level (or equivalent foreign qualification) and with at least 3 years of relevant working experience.
OR
Higher Nitec in Chemical Technology, Biotechnology or related science or technology discipline with at least 1 year of relevant working experience.
OR
Nitec in Technology (Chemical Process Technology) or related science or technology discipline and at least 2 years of relevant working experience.
OR
WSQ Diploma with 3 years' work experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.


Award / Certification / Accreditation

• A Certificate of Performance (electronic Certificate) will be awarded to participants who pass the assessment and meet at least 75% attendance rate.

• A Certificate of Attendance (electronic Certificate) will be awarded to participants who did not pass the assessment but meet at least 75% attendance rate.

• Upon successful completion of the 10 Modules stated above, it will lead to the award of a Full Certificate – Certificate in Analytical Instrumentation & Laboratory Techniques.
