Course Objective

Under Singapore Green Plan 2030, Singapore has set out our vision to achieve 100% cleaner-energy vehicles by 2040. To prepare the workforce's transition to Electric Vehicle use, LTA has launched a National Electric Vehicle (EV) Specialist Safety (NESS) certification in partnership with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).

SP is proud to be one of the training providers appointed to equip technicians with the skills and knowledge to safely conduct electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle servicing in a high-voltage environment. This industry-recognised course covers Electric Vehicle (EV) technologies, electrical principles, high voltage safety handling and awareness, as well as EV / HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) architecture design. It also covers motors and controllers, EV battery and battery management system, EV charging standards and modes, and EV maintenance. There will be a visit to workshop to explore EV / HEV systems and learn on high voltage safety.

The objective of the course is to equip the participants with knowledge and skills in the EV and HEV industries with baseline competencies on high voltage awareness and safety to perform basic maintenance and repair tasks for EVs.>

Course Outline

By the end of the Course, participants will be able to:
- Identify EVs and give examples of current EVs in the market
- Describe basic principles of electricity such as AC/DC, conductor and insulator, electrical quantities and units, Ohm’s law and power dissipation, Kirchhoff’s Voltage and Current law, resistor and capacitor
- Explain high voltage safety handling, such as using appropriate tools and equipment, isolation and safe charging procedures
- Describe the effects of AC/DC on humans and identify voltage wiring and components
- Identify main differences between Hybrid EV and EV and explain their architecture design
- Identify and describe different charging standards, charging modes and charging types (AC/DC), voltage and speeds
- Perform isolation procedure before carrying out maintenance works on an EV
- Identify vehicle repair and maintenance requirements not related to high voltage components
- Identify the different battery types found in EVs and describe the construction and function of battery modules
- Explain basic evaluation of EV batteries and how to store and transport EV batteries
- Demonstrate how EV/HEV maintenance and EV charging are performed
- Understand future mobility of EV: Autonomous Vehicle
