The course is for engineering diplomas graduates (or degree in engineering) to have the opportunity to convert their skills into sea going marine engineers.
This course aims to prepare participants for the Class 5 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency with the operational skills in ship engine room operation according to training standard from International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarer (STCW).
By the end of the course, participants will be able to meet the requirements of the following competence level of Table A-III/1 of the STCW Convention:
1. Evaluate appropriate tools for fabrication, repairs, dismantling/reassembly, maintenance operations found on-board ships.
2. Apply marine engineering knowledge to assist senior marine engineers in providing engineering services for the smooth running of ship machinery.
3. Collaborate with senior marine engineers to assist them with maintenance of marine propulsion and auxiliary machinery at operational level;
4. Demonstrate duties consistent with required safety and environmental regulations.
5. Perform duties effectively on technical matters relating to shipboard practices with personnel at all levels.
