In Singapore, the Industry Transformation Maps (ITMs) have identified Additive Manufacturing as the emerging trend and skills for Precision Engineering, Aerospace and Marine & Offshore sectors (under manufacturing cluster). Additive Manufacturing
technology has captured global attention as it has shown to have the power to revolutionise the manufacturing process and streamline distribution channels. Wohlers Associates (2016) valued the global Additive Manufacturing market to be worth US$7.3
billion, and the estimated growth is expected to triple by 2020 to US$21.2 billion.
While adoption in Aerospace and Automotive has been high, there has been limited adoption in Marine and Offshore Industries. This is due to the third-party qualification required to certify components. Furthermore, no explicit standards currently exist
for marine & offshore sectors to facilitate such qualifications. There is significant confusion from industry on the pathway to certification and the appropriate standards to apply. If parts cannot be certified, they cannot be approved for use,
thereby limiting the adoption of Additive Manufacturing. As many industries have shifted from Additive Manufacturing prototyping to manufacturing parts, this course aims to provide industries with the much needed guidance in Additive Manufacturing
product certification. Global energy, marine and offshore companies such as General Electric, Rolls Royce, Emerson, Keppel, Woodside, FMC, BP, and Shell are increasingly investing in Additive and Digital Manufacturing to shorten prototyping and production
time, thereby reducing manpower and operational costs.
The course enables participants to achieve a comprehensive understanding of Additive Manufacturing with emphasis on standards, codes and certification of Additive Manufacturing parts. The course also equips participants with the knowledge required to
operationalise their organisations to adopt Additive Manufacturing and the processes required for part approval.
• Overview of certification, metal Additive Manufacturing processes, and design for Additive Manufacturing
• Materials: Roles and responsibility in metal powders handling, quality control, and material
• Manufacturing: Understand the Additive Manufacturing systems and qualification, implementation of quality systems and audit
• Post-processing and Inspection: New development in finishing operations to support Additive Manufacturing,
general requirements in inspection and testing
• Quality control and Certification: Understand the accredited quality management systems, facility and manufacturing control, and approaches to certification for Additive Manufacturing and certification
• Understand the relevant Additive Manufacturing codes and standards and their application.

Minimum Entry Requirements / Assumed Skills and Knowledge
Basic knowledge of Additive Manufacturing and Diploma or Higher Nitec in Engineering or a related discipline

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who meet at least 75% attendance rate

Mr. David Hardacre who is based in the United Kingdom (UK) is the Technical Lead of Lloyd’s Register Additive Manufacturing (AM) programme and a global thought leader in safe and sustainable adoption of Additive Manufacturing for industrial applications.
Through the efforts of the AM team at LR, and in close collaboration with industry partners including Rolls Royce, The Welding Institute, Laborelec and global research organisations, David led the development of the “Guidance Notes for Additive Manufacturing of Metallic Parts”.
David also serves as a contributing member of several standards committee including ISO / TC 261, ASTM F42, API 20S, UK National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing, and ASME BPTCS.
