Work-Study Certificates leading to part-time Diploma in Engineering (Power Engineering)

This SkillsFuture Work-Study Programme (WSP) is a work-study programme designed to give fresh full-time Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Nitec/Higher Nitec graduates in Singapore a head-start in careers related to their discipline of study. It provides them with more opportunities, after graduation, to build on the skills and knowledge they acquired in school, and better supports their transition into the workforce.

Who is it for?

The SkillsFuture Work-Study Programme (WSP) is for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are Fresh Nitec/Higher Nitec graduates from one of the ITE in Singapore.

Working adults in the Power industry who wish to pick up specialised skills and knowledge should consider our non-WSP courses like the Diploma in Engineering (Power Engineering)

How does it work?

You will be matched with a job related to your discipline of study and undergo a 18 months structured training programme, depending on the sector and job requirements. The programme includes facilitated learning, on-the-job training and work-based projects, to allow you to deepen your skill sets at the workplace. Assigned mentors at the company will guide you and provide support in your continual skills development. You will also enjoy a well-structured career progression pathway, in line with the company’s talent development plan. At the end of the programme, you will receive an industry-recognised certification.

Diploma course in Engineering (Power Engineering) will comply with the revised CET Diploma Framework. The revised CET Diploma Framework specifies that each CET diploma course consists of five 180-hour modular certificates (MC). Each MC is designed to be completed in one academic semester and is made up of 150 contact hours and 30 flexible learning hours. The flexible learning hours are non-timetabled curriculum hours set aside for self-paced learning activities like eLearning or project assignments.

Students are expected to have access to computer and internet during your study at SP eg. e-learning, writing report, etc.

Course Objectives

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Which universities can I apply to after I complete my CET Diploma? You can apply to part-time undergraduate programmes which are relevant to your diploma course at NUS and UniSIM.

Please click here for more information on NUS, Bachelor of Technology (Btech)

2. Will I need to take any bridging programme? The revised part-time diploma is intended to be more accessible to the workforce, and is made shorter in duration compared to the full-time diploma because broad-based interdisciplinary modules, final year projects and internships, as well as academic modules such as Mathematics and Sciences, are omitted. As such, most part-time undergraduate programmes would require you to go through a bridging programme to prepare you adequately before admission.

3. If I need to take the bridging programme, how much will it cost and how long will it take? While the bridging programmes are currently being worked out by the polytechnics and universities, the duration will depend on the type and nature of the part-time degree course that you apply for, and are expected to be between six months to a year. The fees will not be more expensive than undergraduate modules of comparable duration.
