Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) for Sea Transport Professionals

Course Details

Duration: Up to 6 months, comprising 2 days facilitated classroom training* (Shipping Industry Knowledge) with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), two (2) modules on maritime or emerging skills, and structured on-the-job training (OJT) determined by the participating company.

Course Introduction

The Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) for Sea Transport Professionals is jointly developed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and Workforce Singapore (WSG).  It aims to equip mid-career PMETs with the necessary competencies to take up roles in the area of Port Operations and Services, Shipping, and Maritime Services.

This is a 6-month programme which operates on a Place-and-Train mode.

Customised programmes are designed for different job roles, which are tailored to individual’s development needs so as to equip them with the relevant skills and competencies for a successful career conversion.


Course Objectives

This programme aims at enabling mid-career/displaced PMETs to switch and/or embark on new careers by facilitating placements into hiring companies and putting them through industry-recognized training programmes, in order to acquire necessary skills to take up roles in the area of Port Operations and Services, Shipping, and Maritime Services.

It aims to give participants an overview of the shipping and logistics industry in order to help them understand its scope and impact on the international transport system.


Course Outline

Participating companies employ the candidates before they undergo training for up to 6 months, comprising 2 days facilitated classroom training* (Shipping Industry Knowledge) with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), two (2) modules on maritime or emerging skills, and structured on-the-job training (OJT).

    Suitable for

    Singapore citizens or Singapore permanent residents who

    • Have fulfilled National Service obligation (for Males);
    • Have graduated or ORD and worked for at least 2 years
    • Not be in a similar job role prior;
    • Have no bond obligation with any organisation.


    Assumed Skills and Knowledge

    Possess at least a NITEC/Higher NITEC/Diploma/Degree from any discipline. The participants are nominated by PSA or companies.


    Award / Certification / Accreditation

    • E-Certificate of Performance

    An e-Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who pass the assessment and meet at least 75% attendance rate.

    Funding Incentives

    Participating companies will be supported with course fee as follows:

    Eligibility for Course Fee Funding:

    • Singaporean and Singapore PRs
    • Achieve at least 75% attendance
    • Complete and pass all required assessments
    • Complete post-training survey conducted between 3 to 6 months after course end.
