This SGUS for Class 1 & 2 (Deck Officer) Certificate of Competency programme is offered by the Singapore Maritime Academy of the Singapore Polytechnic. This course is designed for job seekers with experience as nautical officers and personnel who
wish to have the opportunity to enhance and deepen their skills to stay relevant in the maritime industry. This programme conducted full-time can be completed in one year.
Trainees are required to equip with a computer Notebook (installed with minimally windows10 OS) when attending lessons
This Programme aims to provide trainees with the knowledge of operational skills in ship operation as well as advanced maritime management knowledge so as to equip trainees with holistic skillsets necessary to apply these skills broadly across the maritime
industry. This Programme is designed to boost the level of expertise in Singapore maritime landscape for trainees to achieve through institutional-based learning at SP and augmented by working in Projects or doing attachment with companies.
Individuals who wish to re-join or progress within the Sea Transport sector, to assess their career interest, identify relevant training programmes to upgrade their skills and prepare for the desired job roles. Employers will be able to recognise these skills and invest in training their employees for career development and skills upgrading. Training providers can gain insights on sector trends, existing and emerging skills that are in demand, and design programmes to address the sector needs accordingly.

Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident aged 21 and above, and is able to commit to the full-time training schedule.
In addition, the target trainees for SGUS programmes will exclude the following:
a) Graduated or graduating in Calendar Year (CY) 2019 / 2020 from ITE, Polytechnics, Universities, and other educational institutions. This includes graduates from private universities as well as overseas institutions and part-time / post-graduate programmes; and
b) Graduated from the educational institutions mentioned in (a) and completed or completing their National Service (NS) in CY 2019 / 2020 and are entering the labour force.
Applicants should have a Certificate of Competency in Class 3 (Deck Officer)
The Programme consists of three (3) certificate to be conducted within 6 months.
Singapore is a Party to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 as amended. In order to perform the required tasks required on board ships, the training follows that of the standards of skills and competency of Section A II/2 under the Convention:
1. Certificate in Sectoral Fundamentals for Deck Officer at Management Level (3 months)
2. Certificate in Job Specialisation for Class 1 & 2 Deck Officer (2 months)
3. Project (1 month)
All the certificates and modules provide opportunities for learners to embark on an industry project either in-house or in an attachment to a maritime related company.
Simulator-aided assessments and oral examinations for officers sitting for the various classes of CoCs are conducted and CoCs issued by MPA are in full compliance with the STCW requirements.

Award / Certification / Accreditation
• Upon completion of the modules in each Certificate, trainees will be awarded a Certificate of Completion
• Upon completion of all the certificates, trainees will be awarded with a Certificate in SGUS Class 1 & 2 (Deck Officer).

Full Fees (inclusive of GST): $24,342.50
Subsidised Fees for Singaporeans & Singapore PR (inclusive of GST): $500.00
Trainees must fulfil minimum attendance requirements and pass assessments to qualify for course fee subsidies. Trainees who are unable to meet these requirements may be asked to return the course fee subsidies that they have received.
• The programmes allow trainees to exit without penalty if they are successfully placed into a job or have secured a job on their own accord while undergoing training. However, trainees who exit the programme
without a valid reason may be asked to return the course fee subsidy that they have received.
• Refund of paid course fees will be pro-rated based on certificates that have not commenced
