SGUS Specialist Diploma in Building Information Modelling (BIM) Management


The Singapore Polytechnic (SP) School of Architecture and Built Environment School (ABE) and School of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering (MAE) is pleased to introduce our BIM Management Programme. This is a Programme we offer to trainees who are both in Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) industry. This is to facilitate trainees who are keen to further their education in a new knowledge domain as part of the journey in being a life-long learner. This is a full time course which can be completed within a 12-month period.

Trainees are required to equip with a computer Notebook (installed with minimally windows10 OS) when attending lessons.

Course Objectives

This Programme aims to provide trainees with general knowledge of Basic & Advanced Modelling Skills, Computational BIM and BIM Management so as to equip trainees with holistic skillsets necessary to apply BIM capabilities. This Programme cover Architecture, Civil and Structural (C&S), and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) disciplines that are taught in relationship to BIM work processes. There will be lectures and lab hands-on practical sessions for this Programme. This Programme is designed to boost the level of expertise in Singapore BIM landscape and trainees will achieve through institutional-based learning at SP and augmented by working in Projects or doing attachment with companies.

Suitable for

This course is suitable for Technical Specialist: Draftspersons, Modellers, BIM Modellers, BIM / Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) / Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) Specialist, working in the AEC Industry.

With the skills and knowledge gained from this course, trainees will be able to take on new challenges in Built Environment (BE) related to Singapore’s IDD landscape.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident aged 21 and above, and is able to commit to the full-time training schedule.

In addition, the target trainees for SGUS programmes will exclude the following:

a) Graduated or graduating in Calendar Year (CY) 2019 / 2020 from ITE, Polytechnics, Universities, and other educational institutions. This includes graduates from private universities as well as overseas institutions and part-time / post-graduate programmes; and

b) Graduated from the educational institutions mentioned in (a) and completed or completing their National Service (NS) in CY 2019 / 2020 and are entering the labour force.

  • Applicants must hold at least a Diploma from any of the following:

o Diploma in Architecture (SP)
o Diploma in Civil Engineering with Business (SP)
o Diploma in Electrical Engineering (NP)
o Diploma in Electrical Engineering with Eco-Design (NYP)
o Diploma in Green Building Energy Management (RP)
o Diploma in Integrated Facility Management (TP)
o Diploma in Landscape Architecture (SP)
o Diploma in Landscape Design & Horticulture (NP)
o Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (SP)
o Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (NP)
o Diploma in Sustainable Architectural Design (NYP)
o Diploma in Sustainable Urban Design & Engineering (NP)
*Any equivalent diplomas will be assessed on a case-by-case basis

o ITE Technical Diploma, ITE Technical Engineering Diploma or ITE Work-Learn Technical Diploma, or any higher qualification in the following disciplines:

o Architecture
o Landscape Architecture
o Civil & Structure (C&S)
o Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP)

In addition to the qualification requirement, applicants must have had prior relevant working experience in the Built Environment (Architecture, Civil Engineering, Landscape or Building Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing, Facilities Management) or Construction Industry for at least 1.5 years to qualify for the SGBIM course. Supporting document on the work experience is required in the application.


Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and / or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Course Outline

The programme consists of eight (8) certificates to be conducted within 12 months. Classes will be conducted in full-time mode.

1. Certificate in Communication and Interpersonal Skills (1 month)


This certificate covers the key communication areas which include mindset transformation, emotional intelligence (EQ), communications between generations and building digital confidence in the workplace. 

2. Certificate in Introduction to Analytics, Cyber Security, AI and Blockchain (1 month)

This certificate introduces key concepts in the areas of data and visual analytics using Power BI, statistics, cyber security, blockchain, AI and machine learning.


3. Certificate in Essential and Emerging Skills for Employability (1 month)


This certificate covers fundamentals in various essential areas within an organisation, which includes human resource, finance, design thinking, robotic process automation and digital marketing.


4. Certificate in Sectoral Fundamentals for BIM (1 month)


This certificate covers the sectoral fundamentals in Autocad, BIM basics, and essential REVIT MEO modelling.


5. Certificate in BIM Management (Fundamentals, Deployment & Coordination Strategies) (2 months)


This certificate covers various types of BIM modelling development and their purposes, with introduction on BIM software. In-depth knowledge on BIM deployment within an organisation, where trainees will be taught how BIM Strategies will be implemented. The setup of necessary standards operating procedures and guidelines when adopting BIM in an organisation will be covered. BIM for design coordination and design documentation on creating model and drawing content for submission and documentation will also be taught. Trainees will also be introduced to Work-sharing methodology and BIM Objects modelling as well as BIM Disciplinary Strategies for Model Integration.


6. Certificate in BIM Management (Quality Assurance, Quantity Surveying & Construction Coordination) (2 months)

This certificate goes more in depth in the areas of BIM for Quality Assurance Checking, Design and Quantity Surveying Analysis; BIM for Construction Planning and Coordination, and finishes off with a project. Among the areas covered include BIM for Structural Analysis and Energy Analysis, concepts of Construction Planning and Coordination, the use of 4D BIM for construction management and 5D BIM for cost estimation. Learners will then embark on a project to be assessed on the abilities to apply BIM knowledge and skills learnt from Modules: BIM Fundamentals, BIM Standards and Implementation Strategies, BIM for Design Coordination & Documentation, BIM for Construction Planning and Coordination & BIM for Quality Assurance Checking & Design Analysis. Learners will need to collaborate in the context of different disciplines coordinating and managing a building project using BIM.


7. Certificate in BIM for Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) (1 month)


This certificate covers areas in computational BIM for MEP projects using Revit Dynamo, Autodesk Naviswork for MEP project collaboration. And advanced REVIT MEP modelling.


8. Practicum (3 months)

This project module provides opportunities for learners embark on an industry project either in-house or in an attachment to a company or at the Digital Building Innovation Centre (DBIC).

Award / Certification / Accreditation

• Upon completion of the modules in each certificate (certificate 1-4, 7-8), trainees will be awarded a Certificate of Completion
• Upon completion of all modules in certificate 5 and 6, trainees will be awarded with the Post-Diploma Certificates (PDC) respectively. Upon successfully acquiring these 2 PDCs, trainees will be conferred with a Specialist Diploma in Building Information Modelling (BIM) Management from SP
• Upon completion of all the certificates, trainees will be awarded with a Certificate in SGUS Specialist Diploma in Building Information Modelling (BIM) Management from SP

Full Fees (inclusive of GST): $27,761.15

Subsidised Fees for Singaporeans & Singapore PR (inclusive of GST): $1,000.00

Trainees must fulfil minimum attendance requirements and pass assessments to qualify for course fee subsidies. Trainees who are unable to meet these requirements may be asked to return the course fee subsidies that they have received. 

Refund Policy:

• The programmes allow trainees to exit without penalty if they are successfully placed into a job or have secured a job on their own accord while undergoing training. However, trainees who exit the programme without a valid reason may be asked to return the course fee subsidy that they have received.
• Refund of paid course fees will be pro-rated based on certificates that have not commenced
