The SkillsFuture Work-Study Fair held on Wednesday, 12 August 2020, was supported by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), hosted by Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and jointly organised with the other Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) – Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP); Private Training Providers (PTPs) – Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, SIA Engineering Company and SIM Global Education. The virtual event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State (Ministry of Education and Manpower) and Minister for Transport, Mr Ong Ye Kung.

Themed “Building and Transforming Work-Study Opportunities”, this event seeks to enhance the awareness of SkillsFuture Work-Study Programmes (WSPs) among graduates and to provide an avenue for them to connect live with industry partners and participating employers for potential career opportunities. Through the WSPs, participants will have the unique opportunity to further their studies and enter the workforce through an ecosystem of skills-based pathways. In view of the current pandemic, it is even more important to keep up the pace of industry collaborations and strengthen this ecosystem for the graduates.

Virtual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony with Sea, SSG, National University of Singapore (NUS), NP and SP
The signing of this MoU signifies the commitment from different stakeholders to foster partnerships that can help Singapore nurture its next generation of talent pool through WSPs.

NUS and SSG are partnering Sea to launch the Bachelor of Technology in Computing Work-Study Degree. NUS and Sea have also partnered NP and SP to extend the inaugural run of this Work-Study Degree Programme to their graduates.

Announcement of SP’s Collaboration with Industry Partners
This is collaboration between the Agencies, Enterprises, IHLs, Trade Associations & Chambers (TACs), Unions and Professional or Accreditation Bodies.

SSG, Sea, SP, Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC), Blockchain Association Singapore (BAS), Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA), United Workers of Electronics & Electrical Industries (UWEEI) and Banking and Financial Services Union (BFSU) plays a key part in this ecosystem.

IHLs taps on its close relationship with key growth companies, TACs and Unions to garner their support to co-create training programmes covering emerging skills and knowledge, provide the outreach to a wider pool of member companies, particularly small and medium-sized companies, and to at-risk workers who badly need to be re-skilled to remain employable.

IHLs takes one step even further in its effort to ensure graduates of the programmes are quickly put on the job. Regulatory and accreditation bodies such as SAC will conduct assessments for the learners to gain professional and industry certification to perform their jobs.
