To encourage broadening of horizons, all Year One students in School of Business will be allowed to choose one elective, to be read in Year One Semester Two. The brief module details of all the electives can be found here: Brief overview of modules.

Module Name : Business Negotiation Skills
Module Code: BA0394
Available to students from: DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
This module provides students an opportunity to learn about the importance of networking skills in a business environment. Students will be taught the key principles of negotiation and strategies to develop effective business negotiation skills. At the end of the module, students will be able to appreciate the influence of psychology and culture on business negotiation and conflict management and develop effective negotiation strategies.

Suitable for:
Students who are interested to discover how they can improve their negotiation skills to achieve effective collaboration in the business environment.



Module Name : Design Thinking in Selling
Module Code: BA3101
Available to students from: DAC, DBA, DBKF, DFI, DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
The primary goal of this module is to equip students with design thinking tools to unearth benefits and value leading to effective selling of good products or services. Students will go through games and activities in the classroom to enhance learning.

Suitable for:
Anyone who is keen to know oneself to develop a unique set of selling techniques. These techniques are useful for greater self-development in future.
 

Module Name : Emotional Intelligence
Module Code: BA0317
Available to students from: DAC, DBA, DBKF, DFI


Synopsis:
The primary goal of this module is to help students become familiar with the many theories of emotional intelligence, be aware of feelings and thoughts and strategically use that knowledge to make optimal decisions and build relationships.

Suitable for:
Anyone who is interested to be emotionally aware as researchers have found that our emotional awareness and ability to handle feelings, rather than our IQ, will determine our success and happiness in life.
 


Module Name : Fundamentals of Design (Elements)
Module Code: BA3208
Available to students from: DAC, DBA, DBKF, DFI, DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
This module introduces the learner to the various elements of design with an emphasis on its application within a Business context. Student will learn how to apply their understanding through Adobe Design software in individual projects.

Suitable for:
Any business student who needs to learn some basic skills in creating digital or print peripherals for their projects. This beginner’s course is relevant to those who are new to Adobe Design software and want to pick up basic skills in using Illustrator CC and Photoshop CC.




Module Name : Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Module Code: BA0319
Available to students from: DAC, DBA, DBKF, DFI, DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
The aim of this module is to help students learn the basic concepts in the area of entrepreneurship: understanding the stages of entrepreneurial process, adopt the critical skills of an entrepreneur through the entrepreneurial thought and action mind-set, develop personal creativity and entrepreneurial initiative and ultimately trial-start his/her own business through real-life execution.

Suitable for:
Anyone who has the entrepreneurial mindset and tenacity and is
  • excited to start his/her own business,
  • game to take up tough challenges and is comfortable in uncertainties,
  • interested to find out if he/she “has what it takes” to be an entrepreneur.

Module Name : Introduction to Psychology
Module Code: BA0286
Availale to students from: DAC, DBA, DBKF, DFI, DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
The primary goal of this module is to help students be familiar with the various basic theories of psychology, including behavior shaping, memory, with a brief on social psychology and an application on fallacies (applied in the business context).

Suitable for:
Anyone who is interested in Psychology as an introductory module and is interested in its applications. It serves as a broadening model (learning for interest).






Module Name : Project Discovery
Module Code: BA3102
Available to students from: DAC, DBA, DBKF, DFI, DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
The aim of this module is to offer students the opportunity to co-create learning experiences with the lecturer and client, as they work closely to address realistic business situations through action and exploration of approaches and activities. Students will be immersed in various business experiences through a dynamic process, gain real-world exposure, and develop their business acumen and critical project management skills.

Suitable for:
Students with a curious mind, who prefer to learn through a hands-on collaborative approach and gain a practical business experience in their early stage of learning, as the learning will take place out of classroom most of the time.
 




Module Name :Further Mathematics
Module Code: MS8179
Available to students from: DAC, DBA, DBKF, DFI, DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
The primary goal of this module is to help students to better cope with bridging modules at the University, by strengthening their mathematics foundation. Topics covered include calculus, functions, series and complex numbers.

Suitable for:
This module is suitable for students who have the intention to pursue a degree program where a good foundation of mathematics is required. Students who are keen to read this module should have some interest in mathematics and be self-motivated.

 




Module Name :Fundamentals of Programming
Module Code: ST3002
Available to students from: DAC, DBA, DHRMP, DTRM


Synopsis:
The goal of this module is to help students pick up a programming language and learn how to solve and automate some tasks through programming. Students will learn basic programming concepts, data structures, write a computer program and conduct basic data analysis with Python.

Suitable for:
Anyone who is interested in learning programming and using logic to solve and automate problems. If you have ever wondered how the programs you use on your laptop or on the web is created, this course will give you an overview of how it can be done and guide you towards creating your own computer program.
