SBian achieves Skillsfuture Singapore and Workforce Singapore (SSG-WSG) Scholarship
06 Aug 2018
I am honoured and grateful to receive the Skillsfuture Singapore and Workforce Singapore (SSG-WSG) joint undergraduate scholarship. I could not have done it without the support of my family, Singapore polytechnic (SP) lecturers and friends. I admit I was overwhelmed by the first assessment essay and presentations for the scholarship but all my SP experiences held me in good stead to complete the requirements successfully, which is why choosing SP was a great decision. I had unconventional experiences including executing a project for Panasonic Jakarta and embarking on a seven-week Tricity programme to Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand that allowed me to grow as a person and gain a plethora of intrinsic skills like learning to communicate with people of different cultures. Furthermore, every lesson and project assignment equipped me with hard and soft skills that helped me to secure a marketing assistant job with the JUMBO group and survive the gruelling rounds of interviews with SSG-WSG.
I want to do my part for Singapore. While pursuing a business degree with the Singapore Management University (SMU), I will work with SSG-WSG to make Singapore better by creating an educational system that provides more real-life work experiences and global internship attachments to prepare students to be future ready Singaporeans!
To my fellow SP Juniors, nothing is impossible if you set your heart to it and give your best. Make full use of your time in SP by learning from the lecturers and participating actively in events and activities.
Once again, I want to thank my parents for always being there for me and I greatly appreciate Mr Kenneth Lee, Ms Raine Chin, Ms Mila Lim, Mr Roland Soh, Mr Amos Tan, Mr John Foo, Mr Howard Yap, Ms Lynn and all the lecturers who have helped me to be life ready, work ready and world ready!
