Merit Award : The Fisherman

Design Brief:

Design and make an automaton illustrating a fisherman fishing. The humanoid is constructed using regular geometric shapes and the arms are made to move in an oscillating motion to simulate the action of retrieving the fishing rod when a fish is caught. The fishes are made to leap out of the water through a circular profile that the follower of the fishes is in contact with. This circular profile has a cross-section of a slope to create the 'gliding up and down effect". The crank shaft consists of two parts: an eccentric cam to create motion for the arms of the fisherman and bevel gears to rotate the fishes in a plane parallel to the horizontal plane.
