First Prize : A Kopitiam Story
Early in the morning, the Teh Tarik uncle starts his stall going. He brews his magical mixture – tea with condensed milk – as everyday, pours it back two vessels from a height. Soon customers stroll in. An “Ah Beng” makes his appearance. “Teh Tarik satu, bagus punya (one Teh Tarik, a good one please)!” He sits down, and orders breakfast and some tea. A pigeon flies up the table and jabbers at some meat from his leftover meal. The boy notices. He turns furious, pounding the table with his fist. The cup flies. Meanwhile, a little cat sits behind eating fish, despite the “No Pets Aloud” sign (which is deliberately misspelt).
