ENTREPRENEURSHIP

All 2nd year students from any Diploma across SP, can apply for this semester long module. There is no minimum GPA requirement for students to apply and grades attained in this module will not affect the students’ GPA.

This module is designed to help students build an entrepreneurial mindset. Students will work in multi-disciplinary teams and tackle problem statements that help them evaluate their business skills and commitment necessary to successfully operate an entrepreneurial venture and review the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. Students will also be introduced to entrepreneurship from a socio-economic perspective and to the concepts of business model canvas, lean startup methodology and disruptive innovation. The main objectives of this module are as follows:

To understand and apply the concept of business models.

To understand and apply the concept of a Lean Startup.

To recognise the importance of financial management.

To develop a detailed business plan for their business idea.

To pitch a business idea to investors and customers.

Why is it important to have an entrepreneurial mindset?

Entrepreneurship needs to be a mindset, cultivated and nurtured from an early age. Regardless of whether students want to start their own business or take ownership of their career, in today’s world, an entrepreneurial mindset is a necessity.

It is a mindset that has the ability to turn ideas into action; it includes courage, creativity, prioritising, risk-taking, as well as the ability to plan in order to achieve objectives.

This era calls for superior knowledge and skills; it requires individuals with critical and creative thinking; individuals with the ability to acquire, construct, integrate and apply knowledge to new settings; and problem solving informed by a robust decision-making process.
