On 14 July 2015, about 25 students from the School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology attended a guided tour of The Hub Singapore. Located at 113 Somerset Road, The Hub Singapore is a place where entrepreneurs in Singapore can work together as a community within a shared working space. It is the ideal place for entrepreneurs to enjoy the perks of working on their own businesses in a much relaxing environment.

The moment I stepped into The Hub, the pleasant colours and atmosphere gave me a sense of relaxation and peace. It felt as if I had just stepped into a casual café, except that this one was filled with entrepreneurs! We were split into three separate groups, and my group was guided by Germaine, a staff of The Hub. She was really friendly, and she explained to us what the Hub is really all about. She showed us the Events Wall, the 2nd floor working space, the Hubbatron area and much more. It was a really good learning experience to see how The Hub supports all these entrepreneurs who are working on their start-ups in Singapore!

I think that a key learning point from this tour is that having your own business is really tough. Germaine explained to us that to make your own business thrive, you need to manage all sorts of things, such as human resources and finance. We also needed to be outgoing, and to be sociable with other people, so that everyone can work together to help the business prosper. That is probably the reason why The Hub exists. It is to help such people who are trying really hard to make their businesses successful, and I think that will definitely make an impact on them!
