IIS scholarship helps SP students pursue their passion
The Singapore infocomm industry has been experiencing a steady growth over the last few years. Based on the annual survey on infocomm manpower conducted by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), the total revenue from the infocomm industry grew by 10.6% from $70.39 billion in 2010 to $102.46 billion in 2012, while employed infocomm manpower rose 0.6% from 141,300 in 2010 to 144,300 in 2012. This has prompted more students to pursue infocomm-related courses at the polytechnic and university level.

To meet the manpower needs of the infocomm industry, IDA has been offering the Integrated Infocomm Scholarship (IIS) to outstanding O’ level students who are interested in pursuing infocomm-related courses from polytechnic to university level, and subsequently pursue an infocomm career.

In the last four years, a significant number of IIS recipients have been coming from Singapore Polytechnic; 16 recipients in 2010, 23 recipients in 2011, 15 recipients in 2012 and 24 recipients in 2013. Some of these IIS recipients have gone on to pursue infocomm-related degrees, such as Ms. Tan Shi Hui, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Management for Business at the prestigious University College of London in the UK.
