Billy Steven Tay Kit Foong
Diploma in Creative Writing for Television & New Media
“As an actor, I was just following instructions. But as a writer, I can shape the way a story is told. Writing allows me to connect with the audience, their hearts and minds,” shared Billy.
Since young, Billy used to follow his theatre producer mother on her job. Young Billy saw how actors, directors and script writers
came together to bring a story to life. He started taking drama classes and joined the theatre club in his secondary school, Anglo-Chinese (Barker).
Billy was able to draw on his life experiences and incorporated themes of family violence and estrangement into the script of a performance. At the performance, Billy saw the strong reactions of the audience, some even tearing up, and he knew right there that he wanted to be a writer.
Sure of his passion, Billy signed up for SP’s Diploma in Creative Writing for TV and New Media course through the Early Admissions Exercise and is now a year 1 student!
