10 Aug 2017

The Straits Times, 9 Aug 2017 - Article featured the fact that the local universities are gradually accepting more polytechnic graduates into their medicine courses. Of the 11 who have secured places in NUS' Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, six are from SP - the highest number from a single polytechnic to be accepted for the local medicine degree courses. Ms Mah Mon Moey, SP's deputy director for the School of Chemical and Life Sciences, said that SP’s curricula and learning experience lend themselves well to those applying to medical school. Article also featured SP’s biotechnology graduate Peh Ting Yong, whose application to study medicine at NUS in 2015 was rejected. However, his time as a combat medic during national service made him more certain that he wanted to be a doctor. He applied to NUS once again and was successful. SP’s biomedical science graduate Kimberley Lim, who will read medicine at NUS, shared that her poly course exposed her to a lot of modules such as immunology, basic anatomy and biochemistry.
