2,500 students to go on exchange in ASEAN in next 3 years through SP’s Learning Express programme

19 Apr 2023

Article reported that SP and the National Youth Council signed a three-year memorandum of understanding on Tuesday (April 18), to teach students key knowledge and skills for employment in ASEAN, China and India etc. In the next three years, over 2,500 SP students will be able to fly to ASEAN countries for immersion studies, and interact and communicate with local university students, enterprises and social organisations. A study by the Singapore Business Federation found that about 77% of local SMEs choose ASEAN countries for expansion. In order to nurture students' competitiveness in these cultural settings, SP launched the Learning Express programme in 2012, to send students to ASEAN countries for immersion study. SP has also launched the AsiaReadiness minor and certification, which allows students to take language, business, society and culture courses and Asian-related courses, etc., to obtain diplomas and certificates. SP LSC Assistant Director Liu Sin Yee noted that academic results are not considered during the selection process for the Learning Access programme to ensure that opportunity is equally distributed. She also hoped to push the programme beyond ASEAN countries, to other regions in future.
