Building owners vow to replace substandard cladding

Today, 25 Aug 2017 - Article mentioned that owners and developers of buildings found by SCDF to have non-compliant cladding will rectify the situation as soon as possible. These buildings include teaching blocks of SP. A spokesperson for SP said that the contractor who supplied and installed the cladding panels - which were supposed to be in compliance with the Fire Code - will be responsible for the rectification. SCDF has notified SP that the affected buildings remain fit and safe for occupancy because of existing fire safety provisions in place. An SP spokesperson shared that the polytechnic is taking immediate action to address the issue and rectify the matter as soon as possible. SP students opined that they are not that worried about their safety. Final-year SP architecture student Rui Zhi recalled a fire incident at one of the school buildings in 2015 and the poly had handled it well. He added that he is not worried as he knows the way out if anything happens. Similar story was reported in The Straits Times.
