Great Singapore Sale billed a success this year, recovers from 2016's retail slump

The Straits Times, 23 Oct 2017 - Article highlighted the 2 - 4.1 per cent increase in retail sales during the Great Singapore Sale (GSS) period. It is an improvement over the 2.3 - 6.2 per cent drop in sales for June to August last year compared with the previous year. This year's increase is also the biggest since 2012. Ms Sarah Lim, senior retail lecturer at SP’s Business School, said that the GSS is an event that still creates hype and excitement. She shared how the attention of shoppers was captured through the GoSpree app and online catalogues. Ms Esther Ho, deputy director at NYP’s School of Business Management, highlighted that physical retailers still face challenges, especially with shopping websites holding online flash sales.
