26 Sep 2017

Capital 95.8, 25 Sep 2017 - SP’s Food Innovation & Resource Centre (FIRC) and the Health Promotion Board (HPB) collaborated to develop wholegrain yellow noodles made with beta-glucan, a soluble fibre, and rice noodles containing resistant starch, both suitable for diabetic patients. FIRC spent four months to develop the prototypes. Radio clip mentioned that it is difficult to distinguish between the yellow noodles that are currently in the market and the newly-developed yellow noodles. FIRC centre manager Evelyn Ong, one of the food technologists who developed the products, shared their challenges in developing the prototypes. Senior Minister of State Mr Chee Hong Tat shared that HPB will be working with different partners to launch these products. He also mentioned that the manufacturers can even sell these products in overseas market because of the increasing diabetic problems faced in Asia.
