IBTE instructors receive QMET certificates

Borneo Bulletin, 3 Jul 2017 - Article featured the handing over of the Brunei Maritime Academy (BMA) project and certificate presentation, concluding the 30-month collaboration between SP, Temasek Foundation International (TFI) and the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE). SP presented the BMA project document to IBTE. At the ceremony, 15 IBTE instructors also received their QMET BMA Master Trainers certificates. The collaboration started with the signing of the Service Agreement between Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Brunei’s Prime Minister’s Office, in February 2014, to establish BMA to offer a range of competency-based qualifications training for the maritime industry in Brunei Darussalam. MOE engaged the services of Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) through SP International to provide consultancy and training sessions to produce competent maritime professionals for the maritime industry in Brunei Darussalam. Dr Chin Wei Keh, CEO of IBTE, expressed his gratitude for the assistance of SMA, the Marine Department and the marine network companies in Brunei in developing the curriculum for the Diploma in Nautical Studies, Diploma in Marine Engineering, as well as the Deck and Engine Ratings programmes.
