23 Jan 2017

Todayonline.com, 20 Jan 2017 - As part of Project Lapis Sagu, Singapore’s first crowd-sourced film initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) with an aim to foster wider discussions on the issue of social integration, film directors Kelvin Tong, Eric Khoo, K Rajagopal and Sanif Olek will mentor aspiring film-makers who proposed interesting stories. Four out of 1,209 entries were picked – they were submitted by participants of all ages, nationalities and professions. SP’s Diploma in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics graduate Thomas Goh, who is currently serving National Service, was picked by Mr Sanif for his science fiction story about space, while TP’s Diploma in Digital Film & Television student Sean Loo was selected by Mr Rajagopal for his story set in the workplace. The four selected entries will be further developed into short films which will be released in March this year, and the four aspiring film-makers will receive their prize money of $5,000 then. Mr Sanif opined that he is very pleased with Thomas’ original story, and that he looks forward to developing it into a meaningful storyline that is not only about cultural diversity, but also humanity and compassion.
