Increase in admission for polytechnic’s part-time diploma courses over the six years

Lianhe Zaobao, 8 Jun 2016 - Even though the number of full-time students enrolling in polytechnics has declined over the years, the number of adult learners has increased. The Ministry of Education shared that the enrolment for part-time diploma and post-diploma courses has increased from 6400 to 13800 from 2008 to 2014. All five polytechnics shared the number of part-time diploma and post-diploma courses they are currently offering. The polys also mentioned that they have introduced new courses to cater to the increasing number of adult learners. For example, after introducing two new part-time diploma courses last year, SP currently has seven part-time diploma courses and 28 post-diploma courses. Spokespersons from RP and NP opined on the reasons behind the increase in number of adult learners. One of the reasons mentioned is the greater support for the SkillsFuture initiative. Article also featured RP’s part-time diploma in Applied Science (Nutrition and Food Science) graduate and CerealTech baking school lecturer Chen Zhen Yuan who shared his reasons for pursuing the part-time diploma and his positive course experience. He plans to pursue other part-time diploma courses in future.
