New path for polytechnic graduates to become qualified accountants

Todayonline.com, 11 Dec 2015 NP will roll out an 18-month SkillsFuture Earn-and-Learn Programme for Accountancy in August next year, the curriculum of which is jointly developed with the Singapore Accountancy Commission. Polytechnic graduates will pursue part-time further studies through a structured work-study pathway, where upon completion they will be awarded the Advanced Diploma in Accountancy by NP and SAC, which makes them eligible to enroll into the Singapore Qualification Programme to become chartered accountants of Singapore, without having to obtain degree qualifications. Article in Lianhe Zaobao featured NP’s School of Business and Accountancy Director Zhu Xiao Hong, who opined on how this programme will help to prepare students for their future career in accountancy. The five polytechnics also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 16 accounting firms and financial institutions to provide internships for their students. The collaboration, set to begin in 2016, is aimed at improving the internship experience of students in the accountancy and financial services sector and includes companies such as Citibank, DBS, HSBC, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Singapore Exchange and OCBC.
