Officers must clock minimum months at sea for promotion

The Straits Times, 11 Jun 2017 - Article highlighted that those who want to join Singapore’s maritime sector have to pass examinations conducted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and clock minimum months at sea before they can be promoted to the next level. One way for aspiring seafaring officers to enrol as a cadet is through the Diploma in Nautical Studies programme at SP’s Singapore Maritime Academy. The programme allows students to spend one year out at sea and graduate with the qualifications to sail as third officers.
