The Straits Times, 2 May 2016 - The Ministry of Education (MOE) has revealed that last year's local university intake had the highest ever proportion of polytechnic graduates at nearly 34 per cent, up from 24.7 per cent in 2011. Educators said the greater proportion of poly graduates in local universities is in line with the rising aspirations of diploma holders who want a university degree. A NP spokesman mentioned that poly graduates today also have more choices as they can choose to work or further their studies. The expansion of universities have also allowed more poly graduates to get a spot in the course of their choice. SP’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering graduate Dylan Tan, who is studying sustainable infrastructure engineering at the Singapore Institute of Technology opined on how the expansion has allowed him to fulfil his aspirations. Poly graduates from NYP and TP also shared their feelings on being accepted into a local university. Similar story was reported in Lianhe Zaobao, AsiaOne, Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao.
