Lianhe Wanbao, 19 Sept 2017 -Article featured outstanding Institute of Technical Education (ITE) graduates, including SP’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering current student Tan Shi Hui. Shi Hui was the first in her N level cohort, but did not do well enough for polytechnic. She didn’t give up and enrolled in Higher Nitec. Her dad had an accident when she was in Secondary 2 and is unable to work for prolong period of time. Her mum’s health issues also made it difficult for her to do housework. Shi Hui had to juggle her part-time jobs and the household chores, in addition to managing her studies. On top of this, she is the president of three CCA clubs. She graduated with a GPA of 4.0 and was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Model Student award last May. Another outstanding graduate featured was SP’s Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology student Cheng Ying who chose ITE despite qualifying for a polytechnic education as she was interested in Hospitality Management. After graduation, she discovered that she was more interested in Human Resources and thus chose SP to further her studies. She was the organizer of the “Cook Curry Day” competition and won the “Good Neighbour award” in 2016.
