Overcoming failure to pursue a PhD at NTU

09 Jun 2016

Berita Harian, 9 Jun 2016 - Article featured SP’s Diploma in Biomedical Science (DBS) alumnus Ridhwan Muzaki who will be graduating from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a biological sciences honours degree in August. Ridhwan overcame a challenging childhood to become the top N-level Malay student in 2005 before enrolling in SP. He almost dropped out of his diploma course after achieving a GPA of 2.3 in his first semester. However, his parents encouraged him to stay in the DBS course as they could see his passion for it. Ridhwan graduated from SP with a GPA of 3.2 and applied to NTU’s School of Biological Sciences in 2010. His first application was rejected, but he did not give up and applied again the following year and got into his dream course. By pushing himself to work harder than his peers, Ridhwan became a three-time Dean’s lister and has been offered the Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholarship that will allow him to pursue a PhD.
