Poly students’ ideas may feature in future Boeing aircraft

07 Jan 2016

Yahoo News, 6 Jan 2016 - Six SP students saw their inventions become new Boeing patents and are credited as co-inventors of the patents. They were awarded the patents at the opening ceremony of SP’s new AeroHub. The student-developed innovations were created as part of a collaboration with Live Well and Boeing. SP’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering graduate, Dexter Tan, was involved in developing one of the patents, a compartment lock system with visual indicators. He opined that the idea came about when air stewards he interviewed said they would individually touch every lock to ensure it is locked, and that he wanted to come up with an easier way to identify if the locks are secure. SP’s Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering graduate, Elston Cheah, opined that students from the business disciplines, who were involved in creating the inventions, showed him how to implement survey results to improve user experience.
