Purrfect start to school term

28 Jun 2017

The New Paper, 28 Jun 2017 - To welcome students back to school, SP organised a cat therapy event and adoption drive, Purrapy, as part of its four-day Distraction Arts Festival. More than 500 students and staff turned up for the event yesterday, and many queued up to spend three minutes in a room with the six cats. The community cats are taken care of by Mrs Wong, a caregiver of community cats for over 20 years. Students and staff can also indicate their interest in adopting the cats. All proceeds from the postcards and notebooks sold at the event will go towards helping the community cats under Mrs Wong. Event organiser Carrie Lim, a student development officer from SP's Department of Student Development and Alumni Relations, shared how the cat therapy can help to alleviate stress. She added that she hopes to increase students' awareness of animal welfare and to develop a deeper sense of appreciation for community cats through this event.
