Lianhe Zaobao, 25 Jan 2017 - Article featured the SPinOFF programme – a 36-week programme that seeks to nurture the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among third-year SP Diploma in Business Information Technology (DBIT) students. Interested students, who are good at apps development, can apply for the SPiNOFF programme, where they will work on running their businesses in place of final-year project and internship. SP is working with seed capital firm Spaze Ventures, which appoints mentors for the students and can choose to invest up to $50,000 in one selected group each year. When SPinOff was first launched last year, six groups of students applied for the programme and three were selected. DBIT senior lecturer Neelash explained about the mechanics and benefits of this programme. DBIT final-year students Alfred Koh and Xavier Goh, who developed the photography mobile app “LocatLor!” and web and mobile app “Checkra” with their team respectively, explained their projects and opined on how they have benefited from this programme. Alfred mentioned that he wants to continue developing his business after graduation.
