MyPaper, 22 Jan 2016 - Article featured the wheelchair elevator for HDB steps developed by five Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering students. This cost-effective elevator was designed to make it easier for the elderly and disabled to enter HDB units which have steps at the entrance. Article mentioned that this project started when SP’s Live Well Collaborative knew about the challenges faced by Mr Lok whose mother-in-law was wheelchair-bound and approached the students to design the elevator. Article also mentioned that this is one of the 110 final-year projects showcased in SP’s Engineering Show 2016 on 21st and 22nd Jan 2016. Other projects include the card scanning machine developed by SP’s mechanical engineering students and ‘Sun Gauntlet’ to help the visually-impaired to navigate around obstacles without walking crutch.
