Social entrepreneurs flock to SIF workshop

The Straits Times, 17 Mar 2017 - Article featured the Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE) programme’s opening workshop organised by the Singapore International Foundation. One hundred and thirty-eight youths from 18 nationalities participated in this workshop – the highest number since YSE began in 2010. The four-day opening workshop comprises business clinics, training workshops, a dialogue session and a fireside chat. Sixty-three teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges tomorrow as they compete for 16 places in the next phase of the programme. The second phase includes an eight-month mentorship scheme - to run from April to October - as well as an overseas study visit and a final pitch in October for funding of up to $20,000 each for six teams. SP’s Diploma in Perfumery and Cosmetic Science second-year student and local entrepreneur Esther Chan opined on the importance of the connections made at YSE. She also mentioned about her team’s idea – an agricultural transportation device to help Vietnamese rural farmers.
