Students urged to know Asean

The Straits Times, 23 Dec 2014 - At the 3rd Youth Model Asean Conference (YMAC) held at SP, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, urged the audience of 200 students from various polytechnics and educational institutions from the South-east Asia region to know more about their roots and the region. He opined on the importance of understanding the region better first before looking to countries farther afield. During a dialogue session. One of the participants, Ms Rattiya Phoophasuk, a 24-year-old Thai student from the Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi shared how YMAC opened her eyes on different ways to make a better life for people in Asean and how the association is important to small businesses. During the four-day YMAC, participants from the 10 Asean countries took on the role of diplomats tackling issues faced by the grouping. Some issues include education, health, sports and disaster management.
