S’Pore Poly forays into 650 food projects

The Straits Times, 25 Jan 2016 - Article featured SP’s Food Innovation Resource Centre (FIRC) which was set up in 2007 to provide food enterprises with technical expertise and have been involved in 650 food projects in the last nine years. The number of products that are commercialised has grown from around 10 per cent in 2012 to 30 per cent currently. FIRC’s senior manager Dr Lee Mun Wai also shared that the centre tried to involve SP’s Diploma in Food Science and Technology (DFST) students in its work to equip them with practical training in line with industry needs. Every year, it takes in 15 to 18 students on internships and attaches them to various projects. Third-year year DFST students Shaun Koh and Seah Xin Hui shared about their internship experience at FIRC including the experimenting with different types of packaging and making the prototypes currently displayed at the Future of Us exhibition at Gardens by the Bay.
