Today, 21 Aug 2017 - Article featured pre-school teacher Marie Luo who dreamt of becoming a teacher in her university days. After completing her business degree at SMU in 2011, Marie joined the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) instead and became a senior assistant director overseeing productivity. Much to her parents’ initial chagrin, she decided to quit her job last April to take up an early childhood training course at SP, so as to pursue her passion in working with children. This course, which was fully sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MOE), allowed her to learn about childhood development and numeracy skills, as well as providing an inclusive education. She also had the opportunity to learn under teachers with anchor pre-school operators. She joined MOE Kindergarten at Punggol View in January this year and now teaches a class of 20 Kindergarten Two children. Marie shared her fulfilling experience as a pre-school teacher and opined on why she was willing to take a pay cut to join the early childhood education sector. She also opined on the significance of the plan to set up a centralised institute to train early childhood teachers. Marie plans to further her qualifications and take up a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, after her marriage next year.
