Adult learners get a boost

06 Aug 2018

Newsclip featured the upcoming Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) for adult learners where polytechnics will take into account the job experience of working adults who apply for full-time diploma courses. Currently admission into such programmes is based largely on academic results, unlike part-time courses which give credit to work experience. SP’s Diploma in Optometry student Lam Hui Li, shared how she enrolled into her course through the Direct Admissions Exercise. Hui Li worked for two years after graduating with a Business degree from Nanyang Technological University. She subsequently enrolled in SP as she wanted to pick up relevant skills and knowledge to take over her parents’ optical shop. She shared how the new EAE will be useful in supporting adult learners who are keen to pursue life-long learning. She also shared how SP has been supportive towards her learning experience. Newsclip also featured the opinions of academics such as NYP’s registrar, who shared how the new EAE will offer alternative pathways for adult learners. Newsclip starts from 16:10.
