Article featured SP Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering student, Lin Xing Ran, who has just graduated from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). Xing Ran was awarded the Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal for obtaining a perfect GPA score, which allowed him to be exempted from the first year in SP. Xing Ran shared that he used to get into lots of fights when he was younger, and had to attend counselling sessions for his anger issues. Once, his teacher even asked his mother to sit in during class to observe his behaviour. When Xing Ran was in secondary two, his father requested for him to help out at the family’s fish stall. It was then he realised how difficult it was for his father to earn money. Inspired by his father, Xing Ran was determined to study hard to repay his family one day. He did well for his N-Levels which gained him direct entry to Higher Nitec. Today, the 19-year-old volunteers regularly at community service projects as he feels that small acts of kindness can bring joy to others. He, too, hopes to contribute to the community one day.
