Age is an advantage of MTS mentors approaching mentees in a relevant way

11 Nov 2024

For Ms Warda Mohamed Rizal, the age factor not only allows her to be on the same frequency as her mentee but also provides tailored advice and encouragement. In addition to using language lingo learned from social media references such as slay, the 20-year-old mentor under the #amPowered@MTS programme believes that she can build closer relationships with her mentees, especially in understanding the educational paths available. On 10 November, Ms Warda, along with 13 other outstanding volunteers, was recognised at the M3 Forum. On the last Saturday of every month, the third-year SP student, who is pursuing a Diploma in Maritime Business, spends time at Changkat Changi Secondary School to tuition four 16-year-old mentees—two boys and two girls. Lasting for nine months, Ms Warda, along with several other mentors, will guide secondary three to five school students who participate in the Mendaki Tuition Scheme.
