Confessions of one of the first female pilots

14 May 2018

Article featured Sharon Walker, one of Singapore’s longest serving female pilot. At a young age, Sharon already knew she wanted to be a pilot. She tried numerous times to get into the Republic of Singapore Airforce (RSAF), but was always rejected as women were not allowed to be pilots then. It was only in her third year at SP that she received an invitation to join the RSAF and became one of the first female pilots in the air force. After serving in the RSAF for 19 years, Sharon then joined the Singapore Youth Flying Club as its first female flying instructor. She stayed there for seven years before joining SilkAir as a commercial pilot, where she is now a senior first officer.
