Crossing Borders For A Passion

16 Aug 2018

Advertorial featured SP Diploma in Music & Audio Technology (DMAT) graduate, Josh Wei and his passion for music. Josh has been playing the violin since he was five. By the time he was fifteen, he decided that music was his calling. His initial plan to enrol in Temasek Junior College to major in Violin failed due to his lacklustre O-Level grades. Fortunately, he discovered SP’s DMAT course and managed to enrol successfully as his passion for music shone through during the audition. Josh attributes his achievements today to the many opportunities given by SP. In his first year, he took part in a band competition hosted by SP and that opened up his first set of doors into the music industry. One of his biggest works to date is producing music for Gentle Bones, whom he’s been working with since day one. What followed was a whirlwind of performances and worldwide tours before the ambitious duo landed record deals with Universal Music Singapore. Josh has been working tirelessly but never once faltered as his goal was to make it big in the music industry. He was noticed by LA-based producer, Yves Rothman, who offered to take him under his wings. Since then, he has already produced music for several big musicians such as Charli XCX and Carly Ray Jepsen. Josh’s big goal is to win a Grammy and come back to Singapore to help develop the local arts industry. (Teenage magazine, Vol.30 Issue 3, p70)
