Exemptions, earlier entry for A-level grads opting for poly
16 Feb 2019
Article highlighted that GCE A-Level holders who are planning to enrol in a polytechnic can now skip the first semester for 110 courses. For example, A-level graduates taking up NP’s Diploma in Information Technology may be exempted from the modules on computing mathematics and programming 1, if they have obtained passes in H2 computing or computing science and H2 mathematics. The change will take place from Academic Year 2019, and eligible A-Level graduates can be admitted directly to Year 1 Semester 2 in October. This will reduce their polytechnic course from three years to two-and-a-half years. Article also featured SP student Noorhana Norzaim, who enrolled in the Diploma in Chemical Engineering programme after completing her A levels at Victoria Junior College. She was not able to secure a place in a local university with her A-level results and was encouraged by her mother to enrol in the polytechnic. Noorhana shared the benefits of the changes to the admissions process and how she enjoyed the hands-on learning approach in her course.
