Fewer fresh poly grads secure full-time jobs in 2024, but take home higher pay

The employment rate for Singapore’s 2024 polytechnic graduates fell to 87.5%, down 5.2 percentage points from 2023. Full-time employment dropped to 54.6%, while unemployment rose to 12.5%. Despite this, the median starting salary increased by $100 to $2,900. Humanities and social sciences graduates had the highest median salary at $3,038, followed by information and digital technology and health sciences graduates at $3,000. About 27% of graduates worked part-time or temporary jobs, with many doing so voluntarily to pursue further studies. The survey included 7,614 out of 10,045 graduates, as well as 5,290 national service completers. SP’s Principal & CEO Mr Soh Wai Wah, speaking on behalf of all the polytechnics, stated that with the changing work environment, polytechnics are actively helping students acquire the necessary skills to meet future workplace demands. This includes strengthening collaborations with businesses to provide practical experience, integrating artificial intelligence into education, and enhancing career guidance and support.
