Giving traditional Chinese Medicine a new life

22 Jun 2018

Article featured SP Diploma in Visual Communication and Media Design graduate, Su Qin, and her graduation project. She has observed that the millennials often think that Traditional Chinese Medicine is bitter and not useful. This observation inspired her to think of ways to change the packaging for Traditional Chinese Medicine and the ways we consume them. Collaborating with a classmate, Su Qin spent five months researching and develop a new packaging and product. She visited a Traditional Chinese Medicine shop in Chinatown and read up on the topic. After much hard work, Su Qin and her classmate managed to create a packaging with five colours, each representing a different element. They also developed a Chinese medicine Popsicle to attract the attention of youths. She commented that the biggest challenge was having to read articles in Chinese to gather research, as her Chinese language ability is not strong. With this project, she hopes to raise the awareness and change the stereotype of Traditional Chinese Medicine. (Lianhe Zaobao, p9)
