A common misconception about the Diploma in Perfumery and Cosmetic Science at SP is that it is only for beauticians and focuses on make-up and cosmetics. Mr Gilbert Teo, course chair of SP’s Diploma in Perfumery and Cosmetic Science, clarified, "We don't do any make-up. We teach things like skin and hair care. We teach the science behind that, like the layers of your skin and what ingredients can help." Students learn about the ingredients in everyday skincare products, such as sunscreen and moisturisers, and their purposes. They also work on improving these products while becoming familiar with their scent and texture. In the first year, students cover foundational science modules and are introduced to raw material scents. From the second year, they focus on cosmetic science, working with formulas and scents in a lab. In the final year, students complete a 44-week internship. Mr Heng Jun Jie, a lecturer at SP's School of Chemical & Life Sciences, emphasised that there are various industry-related roles available. RP's Diploma in Environmental and Marine Science course is ideal for those passionate about environmental advocacy, marine conservation, and sustainable development. Ms Laura Yap, a marine and environmental science lecturer at RP, noted, "Many of our students are environmental advocates, environmental champions." The diploma focuses on sustainability, covering topics such as pollution control, product packaging, water resource management, food sustainability, and marine biology, including animal health and nutrition. NP’s Diploma in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering course blends biology and chemistry, preparing students for industries like biopharmaceuticals and food and beverages. Ms Corliss Lin, course chair of NP’s Diploma in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, said, “In our course, students explore areas such as artificial intelligence, process simulation, and sustainable industry practices. This ensures our students remain at the forefront of the industry." The course also offers hands-on, real-world learning experiences, including internships, where students will use industry-standard equipment.
